nicholas rodney drake deu muito poucos concertos, e a maior parte deles como número de abertura para um artista mais famoso, como aconteceu com os fairport convention. consta que, ao contrário das gravações em estúdio, as suas actuações ao vivo eram sempre breves e até algo desagradáveis, sobretudo porque não havia empatia com o público. 

na verdade, como muitas das suas canções necessitavam de uma afinação de guitarra diferente da convencional, ele interrompia o concerto para ajustar a guitarra e só longos minutos depois apresentava a canção seguinte, tornando impossível qualquer noção de conjunto e ritmo. e nunca, nunca dizia uma palavra.
